Virtual Worry Doll

Worry dolls originate from indigenous Guatemalan culture. They have become a common tool in helping children manage their anxieties. In this short design study, a worry doll puppet was brought to life for users to control through their webcams.

The study has been divided into two parts. The first part part is more basic in modeling and animation, the second part intends to build on what I learned and create a more complex version.

Tools
Unity, Autodesk Maya, Polycam

Part I Testing

Initially, a 3D figure model was used to check the MediaPipe plug-in and fix any issues with hand tracking. The finalized worry doll was imported and programmed using visual scripting in Unity. Since this was my first time working with a game engine, I kept the goals simple by focusing on just arm movements and body turning.

More coming soon.
